FSAE Competition at MIchigan in Two Days

Our 2009 car was unveiled and presented today at Guelph's University Center. We would once again like to thank all of our sponsors for supporting us and allowing us to have the resources to build this race car. We are now performing some the last bits of maintenance on the chassis before we leave to Michigan on Wednesday for the competition, during which we will compete internationally against over a hundred other universities from around the world.

Chasis & Nosecone

Here's an image of the chasis frame that was completed a few weeks ago.

We've also finished the side panels and firewall. All that's left of the body work now is the nose cone, which we will soon fiberglass and bondo. The current state of the nose cone can be seen below.

Assorted Updates

The team has been extremely active this winter semester. All of our winter events have been a huge success as always, amassing interested crowds every time. Here's a break down of what we've been busy with:

Engineering Month at the Mall, March 1
Promoted engineering to the public alongside several other Guelph Engineering groups at the Stone Road Mall. We brought our racing simulator in one of our old chassis for people to try out while we offered insight and facts about formula racing and the design and construction process that goes into building open-wheel formula race cars.

College Royale, March 21 & 22
Displayed our racing simulator at the Guelph Engineering building and taught kids and potential Guelph undergrads about engineering disciplines and, of course, race cars.

Present, March 30
As of now, the chassis is complete and we are wrapping up our cost report, and will begin construction on body work soon. The templates have already been mapped out.

November Progression

It's now November and we're already well into construction on the new chassis! The following picture includes the roll hoop we made in our shop:

Last month we built a formula race car simulation with our chassis from two years ago. It was presented at a University of Guelph high school showing and was received exceptionally well. One mounting system was built at the nose of the chassis for the simulation pedals, another made in front of the seat for the simulation steering wheel, and a final one made above the nose for the monitor. All of these components were connected to an official formula race car simulation game. People of all ages "competed" throughout the day in our chassis, for the feel of a real race car!

2008-2009, Commence!

This is a small update to let everyone know that we have eagerly been preparing for construction of this year's car during the past month. PICs have been coded, and the new formula racing car design is nearing completion. We should be able to begin construction on this year's chassis sometime soon!

2008 Car Unveiling

We'll be unveiling the new car for this year's competition on Tuesday, May 6th at 1:30pm. The unveiling will be held in the courtyard of the University Centre, all are welcome to attend. A brief presentation highlighting the new features of the car will be given followed by an opportunity to look at the new car in detail and ask Gryphon Racing team members questions about the car.
